This "Watchman's Vest" was produced in a limited edition of 135 for the performance of The Spirit of Haida Gwaii, an Oratorio for soloists, chorus and orchestra composed by Bruce Ruddell, and performed at The Spirit Concert, a Bill Reid Foundation sponsored event held at the Chan Centre in Vancouver in 2002. Biography: BILL REID (1920-1998) The work of Bill Reid, Haida, a goldsmith turned sculptor, carver and writer, ranges from the most intricate to the monumental -- in wood carving, exquisite silver and gold jewellery, beautiful prints and massive sculptures. Reid was the pivotal force in introducing the great native art traditions of the Northwest Coast to the world. |
