The name of the auction, "Objects of Bright Pride," is derived from a quote by Bill Reid from Out of the Silence (New York, Evanston, San Francisco, London: Harper & Row, 1971: 17):

"These were objects of bright pride,
to be admired
in the newness
of their crisp curved lines,
the powerful flow
of sure elegant curves and recesses
-yes, and in the brightness
of fresh paint."
