Description: The story of the panel pipe is told by the Raven and the Raven: the elements of Earth - represented by the Eagle, Killer Whale, and Wasco (Sea Wolf) - are protecting Earth's greatest treasure, the Salmon. The sign of the Salmon appears on the box held by the two Frogs. The pipe warns that if the Frogs disappear, so will the Salmon. This panel pipe is intricately carved out of a single piece of argillite.
Biography: Lionel Samuels was mentored at a very young age by George and Terry Yeltatzie, and then Claude Davidson. Samuels's intricately detailed sculptures in argillite, wood, and silver are rich with the symbolism and tradition of his Haida ancestors.
